Acolytes- Children must be at least 8 years old to be in the Acolyte program at BUMC. Acolytes play an active role in our Sunday morning worship services. Special training is available for those who wish to assist with Holy Communion. If your child would like to become an Acolyte, please contact the church office at (270)443-2401, so they can be included in the next training class.
Greeters- Each Sunday morning greeters are located at the doors in the sanctuary to welcome worshipers to our church. Many times the Church Greeter is the first impression a visitor has of our church. It is not required that you know the name of each person who enters the church sanctuary. You don’t even have to recognize their face! Just relax and enjoy the experience of meeting new people. A smiling face, a handshake and a willingness to serve are all that is required to be a greeter. Greeters serve on a rotating schedule. Contact the church office at (270)443-2401 if you would like to be added to the greeter schedule.
Ushers- Ushers are an important part of our worship service. Like Greeters, sometimes the Usher is one of the first impressions a visitor has of our church. They also welcome persons who enter the Sanctuary and they distribute bulletins. When the Sanctuary is crowded, the ushers need to help find every available seat and then usher worshipers to that seat or seats. During the worship service, they pass the attendance pads and take up the offering. Ushers serve on a rotating schedule.
Communion Stewards- During Communion we serve at the rail and by intinction at stations. Lay volunteers are needed to help serve at all stations.
Flower Ministry- Altar flowers from Sunday worship are shared with homebound members and those in nursing homes. Volunteers come to the church on Monday and disassemble the altar flowers into bouquets of various sizes. They are then distributed to nursing homes, shut-ins or hospitals. Vases of all sizes are always needed for this ministry.
KEYS II After-School Program - BUMC provides an after-school mentoring program for selected 1st graders from a local elementary school. KEYS II meets Monday thru Thursday during the school year. A meal is served to the children before beginning work on reading, spelling and homework assignments. Volunteers are needed to: provide meals; help children with their studies; provide birthday cakes; or gifts for child's birthday celebration. Swim lessons are part of the program each year.
To volunteer for any of these service opportunities, please call the church office: (270)443-2401
