No Longer Friends

Dear Christian,

What do I do when a friend does something very mean to me?  How do I handle that?

Betrayed BFF

Dear Betrayed BFF,

That is a good question.  I wish I could say that I haven't burnt any bridges in my own past, but that is not the case.  Let's go straight to the source:

Luke 6: 27-31 says:

It's TIME for a change.  I will no longer be GRIPPED by the world's warped mindset.  I have been TRANSFORMED by Jesus Christ and my thoughts and actions are subject to a HIGHER STANDARD.  I can't change the past but I CAN make a difference TODAY.  In God's power I will Be a REVOLUTION.  Rom 12:1&2, 2 Cor 5:17.

Our Vision and Purpose

The BUMS Ministry’s vision is for every BUMC student to be led to Jesus.  Once the student has been led to Jesus, it is our prayer for a relationship with God to transpire through Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and the Holy Spirit’s handy-work.  It is then our mission to assist each student with personalized growth as a disciple of Jesus Christ within a safe and fun-loving environment.

There is something for every student at BUMC who desires to grow in his/her faith.  Are you connected?  Check out our opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship at 411!

 Scriptures to Live By

•    Jesus is the way and the truth and the life and no one comes to the Father except through Him.  (John 14:6)
•    God has a hopeful plan for every youth! (Jeremiah 29:11)
•    Prayer is powerful! (Mark 11:24, James 5:16)

When We Meet

Sunday School

9:30-10:15 Youth Room

Sunday School is a time of Bible study where our Middle and High School youth are challenged to walk with Christ through conversational lessons that dare us to practice our faith in very practical ways.  Our Sunday school hours are 9:30-10:15 and meet in the youth room.

6:00-7:30 Youth Room/Youth Fellowship

BUMS –Sunday Nights is our youth group for Middle and Senior High.  This is the main place for youth to cultivate relationships with other Christian youth.  We meet each Sunday night for games, small groups and dinner.  Beginning at 6:00, the youth meet in the youth room and chillax with a game of sardines, touch football, hillbilly golf, etc.  At 6:30 the Middle Schoolers head off to the Green Room and the High Schoolers return to the Youth Room.  Each group uses this time to learn valuable application of God’s word to one’s life.  This is a time for students who wish to grow in their faith PLUS fellowship with their peers.

Come join a fun group of youth seeking deeper relationships with God and one another!

THIS IS ME Lyrics

I've always been the kind of girl
That hid my face
So afraid to tell the world
What I've got to say
But I have this dream
Right inside of me
I'm gonna let it show, it's time
To let you know
To let you know

This is real, this is me
I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, now
Gonna let the light, shine on me
Now I've found, who I am
There's no way to hold it in
No more hiding who I want to be
This is me

Do you know what it's like
To feel so in the dark
To dream about a life
Where you're the shining star
Even though it seems
Like it's too far away
I have to believe in myself (Change: "myself" to "Him")
It's the only way

This is real, This is me
I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, now
Gonna let the light, shine on me
Now I've found, who I am
There's no way to hold it in
No more hiding who I want to be
This is me

You're the voice I hear inside my head
The reason that I'm singing
I need to find you, I gotta find you
You're the missing piece I need
The song inside of me
I need to find you, I gotta find you

This is real, this is me
I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be, now
Gonna let the light, shine on me
Now I've found, who I am
There's no way to hold it in
No more hiding who I want to be
This is me
You're the missing piece I need
The song inside of me (this is me)
You're the voice I hear inside my head
The reason that I'm singing
Now I've found, who I am
There's no way to hold it in
No more hiding who I want to be
This is me

Relate: My daughter was given this CD for her birthday and her favorite song is #6, "This is Me".  While listening to this song (over and over again), I thought about how the lyrics mirror a relationship with God.  Only one word needs to be changed for it to actually become a praise & worship song--the one word to change is "myself" to "Him".  Isn't it interesting that when one takes his/her eyes off of self, that we can focus on Him...and truly praise Him?
