Music Ministry
Statement of Purpose
To Praise God! To, “Make a joyful noise to the Lord. . . Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into His presence with singing.”
We do not take this responsibility lightly. We are committed. We constantly seek to develop and improve our offering. Music Ministry has and will continue to be an important part of the heritage and life of Broadway United Methodist Church. We offer a variety of ways for the people of God to give of their time and talents, however large or small, to the Lord.
There are no auditions necessary to join any of our choirs. All that is needed is the desire to praise and worship the Lord.

The Children's Choir is a part of our "God'zOwn" program. It rehearses from 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. in the choir room during the "God'zOwn" terms. In each of the terms we will be preparing an anthem for presentation at the end of the term in morning worship. Choir will include studies in rhythm, form, text, music theory, and music reading. We will learn more about how to use our voices and expand the range.
Youth Division
DaySpring - Grades 6 - 12
All youth in grades 6 though 12 are invited to participate in DaySpring. You need no prior experience. If you love to sing, we would love to have you join us. Rehearsals are from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. on Sundays. DaySpring will participate in worship services as often as possible.
Faithful and continued participation in the rehearsals and activities of DaySpring will result in a close and vital Christian community of service and praise.

Adult Division
Gospel Choir
The Gospel Choir is for grades 6 through adult. This group sings primarily Contemporary Christian Music. The music is generally learned by singing and listening, therefore, music reading skills are not necessary and improvisation is encouraged.
It rehearses in the choir room on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.. The Gospel Choir has no regular worship responsibilities. They sing for worship as they have things prepared. They do not sit in the choir loft and they do not wear robes.
The Gospel Choir does join with the Chancel Choir as a robed choir to present our Christmas and Easter Cantatas.
If you love to sing with others, and you would like to honor and worship God by doing so, you are invited to join us for fun, worship and praise.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is the main singing choir of the church. The only requirement for this choir is a love of singing, a willingness to commit to the rehearsal time, and a willingness to put in the work during rehearsals. The Chancel Choir carries the main worship responsibility for the Sunday, 10:30 a.m. worship service. This is our traditional robed choir. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 7:05 to 8:30 p.m. in the choir room.
The repertory is inclusive of all types, styles and periods with a focus on the more “traditional” style of church anthem. We generally work 6 to 9 weeks ahead on the anthems giving everyone a chance to learn the music before worship presentation.
The Chancel Choir, in conjunction with the Gospel Choir, presents a Christmas Cantata on the 3rd Sunday of Advent and an Easter Cantata on Palm Sunday. The cantatas arempresented during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. In addition the Chancel Choir participates in the 8:00 p.m. Christmas Eve Service, the Maundy Thursday Service, and carries the major responsibility for the Tenebrae service on Good Friday.
The Chancel Choir is a wonderfully dedicated group of friendly people who welcome all into their very special fellowship.
Handbells
Many people, for one reason or another do not wish to or feel that they cannot sing; but they would like to be involved in music ministry. Handbells provide a way for that to happen. We will add new handbell choirs, as needed for the number of participants and skill levels. We will even teach you to ring one on one before you try joining a choir. If you can count to 12, can keep a steady beat, and can learn to use your hands independently, you can learn to ring handbells.
Fellowship Ringers
Fellowship Ringers is the only on going handbell choir that we have at the moment. It is for grades 9 through adult. It rehearses on Sunday
evenings in the bell room from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Bell assignments are made so that it is not necessary to be able to read music. The notes are marked for each ringer. This is an advanced bell choir, but we are usually looking for additional ringers. If you are interested, come and observe, perhaps even give it a try. You will find it a challenge, but the fun and music making is well worth the effort.
