Sunday School Classes
Blanche Pecora Class
This class of 50-year-olds and up is named for a Sunday School teacher who taught most of our children. We meet in the Conference Room. We study The Adult Bible Series and are lead by five better-than-great teachers who rotate teaching opportunities. We "adopt" a needy family for Christmas and support the Juvenile Detention Ministry. We helped supply some of the needed items for the remodeled church and will continue to respond to charitable needs. We like to have fun and are always looking for an excuse to have a potluck get-together. We love our church, we love our class, and we love our God. We welcome new members to our class.
David Comperry Class
This class is for adults of all ages. It generally focuses on a particular topic or portion of scripture for 5-12 weeks at a time. Often the material is presented by means of a video series. We meet in the Waller Classroom. Currently, we are studying a video series by Adam Hamilton, entitled, "Making Love Last a Lifetime: Biblical Perspectives on Love, Marriage, and Sex."
Irion Class
The Irion Class is made up of mature adults who study the International Sunday School lesson. The class formed in the 1970's; many of the original members are still active. There are four regular teachers who alternate among various Sundays. The lesson presentation typically begins in a lecture format, but there is a relaxed and open opportunity for questions and comments. The class primarily uses the International Lesson materials, although discussion often examines current relevancy or the Biblical references. Throughout the year, the class enjoys 2-3 socials.
John Williams Class
The fall series is the "Old Testament Sunday School stories," which can be loosely defined as those passages that we all should know by heart. Examples are: Esau and Jacob, Moses and the burning bush, Joshua and Caleb, Gideon, Sampson, Ruth, Samuel and Eli, David and Goliath, Jezebel and Elijah, Esther, etc.
Julia Roberts Class
Named after one of its honored earlier teachers, the Julia Roberts Sunday School Class is the home to men and women, mostly aged 30-50. This class alternates between traditional Bible Study and topical issues involving the Christian life, with themes usually decided by consensus. The Julia Roberts Class has no set teacher, but one that changes based on what topics are covered. It supports providing food for Community Kitchen on a rotating basis with other groups. This is a good class to explore the deeper meaning behind God's word in an open, welcoming environment.
Mutchler-Fellowship Class
The Mutchler Fellowship Class is a class of caring friends that meet each Sunday to study the Adult Bible Studies Series. We feel free to join in discussion of the lesson or just listen. There are six regular teachers who present the study on a rotating schedule. We also enjoy joining together singing our favorite hymns. The social focus is the Christmas Pot Luck each year at a differnt member's home. At this time, we have carol singing, good food, sharing, fellowship and fun. Our class consists of approximately 20 regularly attending members and range in age from the 50s-90s. New and/or old friends are welcome to join us. We meet in the classroom at the top of the stairs by the old elevator.
Russell Class-Young Adults
This class meets in the Church Parlor (behind the Sanctuary) and is taught by Tom Russell. The class is for young adults from 25-40 and it includes couples and singles. The topics are chosen to be relevant to the age of the participants. Group participation is encouraged, but not required . The interest and participation in the class is exciting. It is a great venue to meet other young adults in the church.
Disciple Bible Study
Studies run from September through May. The amount of times depends on the study
An Information meeting is held in late Summer to determine which studies will be offered for the year. Each study has 6 to 16 people. The number of studies offered depends on the number of participants.
